Splendid view - puts Snowdon into perspective!

    Mine

    BRIAN O Land girls
Good shot - two not to be aergued with!

    DAVE C NAAFI Truck
    Nicely composed image

    DAVID B Protest
An unnerving sight, but given the adults on both sides I do believe I would have myself scarce.

    DAVE S Autumn Equinox
Good shot and I hope you were at 90mm!

HARRY H Cat on a scooter
Like all good cats somewhat assertive!

    JULIN P SW Drive
Autumn sun always serves this kind of landscape.

    KEN G Faircround
A good experiment, but I would have liked to see more of the colour on the right hand side

    MALCOLM R Shadows and reflections
Nicely done and gentle colours help the delicacy of the pilour.

    PHIL C Driver Change
A real of sense of action and observation - beautifully done.

Compositionally good, but lacking a bit of contrast.

    Andre H.
    Strong, colourful composition.

    Brian O.
Interesting candid well captured. Not sure about the sky?

    Dave C.
    Mine.

    David R.
Busy reportage image, good use of monochrome.

    Dave S.
    Colourful sneaky peak.

    Harry H.
Laid-back cat, maybe lose a bit from the top.

    Julian P.
Well seen image, maybe a bit heavy on the right.

    Ken G.
A brave effort for a difficult subject.

    Malcolm R.
Good use of portrait format, maybe stronger in black-and-white.

    Phil C.
Well captured moment, drivers a bit small in the frame.

    Richard B.
    Excellent symmetrical space rocket!!

  3. 1. Alex B. I feel sure the long trek was exhilarating, if tiring, ultimately full of reward. It is the rock formations and scree slopes at the water's edge, framed by the high peaks, that hold my eye.

    2. Andre H. An intriguing station facade, dynamic, perhaps symbolic of a long and winding railroad (!). There is no human presence, no obvious entrance, no directional signs, no road markings; unusual for a public building and a bit of a mystery.

    3. Brian O. There is no mistaking this WWII recreation, the careful attention to detail. The hand gesture adds interest. The rendering of the sky looks unnatural, and perhaps could be adjusted to the benefit of the whole.

    4. Dave C. Fine weather at the Yorkshire Air Museum. The dark rendering of the sky (edited, or use of IR or red filter?), and shadows add atmosphere and appropriate drama to this deserted, former war time scene.

    5. David R. Good to see a contemporary documentary image in the this forum; all the hallmarks of protest, resistance and control. I was pleased to find the word ‘Gaza’ in the melee, broadly cementing it in time.

    6. Dave S. Strikingly rich in colour, full of implied movement, this low angle shot more than does justice to the unfolding, tribal ceremony. We are presented with the face of a troupe member only, the human side, enough to add interest. I’m reminded of the outfits of ‘Extinction Rebellion’.

    7. Harry H. Apparently photos of cats are among the most popular on the internet. A chance encounter, your cat is alert, but seemingly unperturbed by your presence. I like the lemur-like ringed tail.

    8. Julian P. Well exposed, the tree canopy hiding the brighter tones of the sky above. The rhythm of the oblique shadow lines adds interest to the long drive.

    9. Ken G. A fairground ride in abstract. Well exposed & controlled, with an appropriate amount of movement. Very nice.

    10. Malcolm R. Well seen and timed in the moment, the subdued colours subtly lifted by the complementary colour of the lady’s pink coat, her hair also in tune with the foreground composition. I wonder if you had to loiter, awaiting your chosen passer-by.

    11. Phil C. I like the prominent silhouette, the first of 5 or more layers , each of which draws me further into the scene. The scene is made more effective by the striking presence of the attentive team member in orange garb.

    12. My photo.

  4. 1. Alex B. An extra-ordinary landscape, snow on the ground and cloud covered peaks confirm the high altitude. Foreground rocks give a lead into the frame.

    2. Andre H. Is it architecture or sculpture? Either way the concertina/wave effect is splendidly depicted against that clear blue sky.

    3. Brian O. There is an interesting story being told here - we can only guess what it might be. A nicely captured moment with nothing there to distract the eye from the two “girls”.

    4. Dave C. Another enactment type of shot, the inclusion of the huts makes an appropriate backdrop to the truck itself. It is very contrasty and is losing some useful shadow detail.

    5. David R. The high taking angle gives us a good view of the crowd of protestors and of the old boy being arrested although in truth the two coppers on each side of him seem more concerned for his wellbeing and safety than making an arrest - intriguing.

    6. Dave S. Eye catching colour, did druids really look like this? No matter they are enjoying themselves and you have the forward facing druid nicely framed between two of her fellow circle members.

    7. Harry H. An alert but relaxed moggie on a moped. Well worth a frame.

    8. Julian P. Very pleasant, the shadows across the path give the appearance of steps.

    9. Ken G. The colours work well against the black background and make an fascinating pattern, might it work better as one of a short series rather than as a stand alone image?

    10. Me.

    11. Phil C. Rather confusing but the two mysterious shadowy figures are in stark contrast to the brighter world beyond

    12. Richard B. What a fantastic building, the “Leviathan” appears to be about to be swallowed up by another giant on its tail. The symmetry of building and reflection along the horizontal axis is beautifully captured.

Reminds me of when I was in S.America- attempting to summit Mt. Aconcagua, stunning landscape views that spine between Chile and Argentina, Lovely Landscape shot with nice tones.

    Andre H.
I like the colourful contrast/separation of the blue sky from white metal structure the railway station, when these structures are spotted they have to be photographed.

    Brian O.
A Nice image of a WW2 reenactment showing land-girls , not sure if my eyes are deceiving me, but is there a slight purple cast under the clouds.

    Dave C.
Nice Image, the sky looks like an I.R shot.

    David R.
Demonstrations are Always the place to be, to get an interesting shot.

    Dave S.
like the full red colour of the costumes, it’s a bit blown out at the top, but your low angle as captured the moment.

    Mine.

    Julian P.
The shadows from the trees on the road give the impression of railway sleepers, nice image.

    Ken G.
    Nice Abstract.

    Malcolm R.
I like the shadow patterns, very soft.

    Phil C.
An action image with plenty of urgency

    Richard B.
Beautifully framed, the reflection looks like a fish just about to be eaten by a whale- fantastic image.

  6. Alex B: Mine

Andre H: An interesting pattern, like a wave.

Brian O: I like the colours in this one - kinda retro, especially the sky. Kodachrome? Nice details, and you are close enough to keep the subjects interesting, but not too close to lose the background context.

Dave C: Wonderful monochrome. Love that sky. Highlights are well controlled with a good contrast range.

David R: Good reportage image. That “terrorist” looks really dangerous! The off-set angle of the image highlights the drama of the event. Well caught.

Dave S: Very colourful, although the sky is burnt-out and distracts a bit.

Harry H: Excellent shot. Shallow depth-of-field helps us concentrate on the subject.

Julian P: A nice rural shot. I wonder what is round that corner.

Ken G: An excellent abstract. A bit too much black on the right - could it have been cropped off?

Malcolm R: A very good shot with a minimal colour palette. Nice work.

Phil C: Excellent. I like the framing with the two silhouetted figure in the foreground. I think they are needed to add foreground interest, possibly hide something going on behind the fence, although all the action is concentrated to the left.

Richard B: A nice reflection, perfectly symmetrical. Excellent.

  7. Alex B - fascinating landscape, the image capturing an almost other worldly combination of shapes and textures between water, rocks and clouds

Andre H - striking image, the white bars like railways sleepers of a white track curling away, the building and its depiction echoing its function

Brian O - the expressions perfectly capture their vibe, while the tonal treatment and exposure give it an appropriately retro feel of early colour film

Dave C - strong composition and effects reinforce the wartime origins of the truck, a reminder of troubled times

David R - the angled perspective of a camera held high convey the chaos and the fact you are commendably close to the action as the arrest unfolds

    My picture

Harry H - the shapes of the seat and its support nicely complement the sleek cat, well caught staring straight into camera

Julian P - the lattice of shadows and tracks beneath the green canopy give subtle definition to a picture that transports us to some rural idyllic down the drive

Ken G - dynamic abstract with a strong sense of movement as the coloured trails sweep towards the black swathe on the right of the image

Malcolm R - pleasing still life with a classic feel enhanced by the colour and the way the flowers stand out against the vertical shadow

Phil C - good action shot, the layers conveying the range and number of people involved and the sense of urgency enhanced by the posture of the driver

Richard B - perfectly seen and executed, composition, tone, palette turn an already impressive building and its reflection into a magical creature

  8. Alex B: Thank you for this view. I walked to the same viewpoint in the 1980s when my Antarctic season was delayed by a ship losing its propeller. I thought the rock colour was stunning - and there was ice in the lake. Your B&W to me masks those features I remember well.

Andre H: The outermost structure is the strongest contrast to what the UK offers, but behind the scene’s”glamour” it seems they have missed a trick in keeping up interest.

Brian O; This looks authentic and you have captured a good moment of social interchange. Well done.

Dave C: I would have liked to have seen a less contrasty and lighter version of this. The unnaturalness of your rendering strikes me as unnecessary.

David R: Congratulations for getting into the thick of this and getting an immediate shot with so many police hats. Your description gives a good sense of the horror of this peaceful protest.

Dave S: What a fabulous concentration of opposing colours! Great action, and a story for the equinox. I like it.

Harry H: An image for cat lovers. The cat’s expression is inscrutable.

    Julian P: Mine

Ken G: A good experiment. Painting with light. I gather iPhones/Android devices are so clever these days that you can get fabulous results on subjects like these without even trying. Us in the Leica fraternity have to work hard!

Malcolm R: Very subtle colour shades and a coherent image.

Phil C: The title suggests more than the image provides for me. I gauge something is happening in the pits, but what is unclear.

Richard B: The skeleton of a whale. Really exciting. Is the UK being left behind in creating appealing modern buildings?
