St Osyths in Essex, taken with a lumix FZ1000 with a leica lens. A very interesting place to take great shots.

Taken with M240 and Voigtlander 35/1.4 in the wonderful Gallo/Roman Museum, Lyon. What a great city, perfect for a long weekend break via Eurostar/TGV.
Storm Clouds over the City
M10 + 28 Summilux
I liked the way the line boats parked in the centre of the river followed the line of the bank, the new London City skyline rising from the old, and the dramatic clouds that told me to walk a lot faster to Waterloo Station before I get soaked!

1) Elaine J. An East Anglian coastal shot that seems timeless. I like the foreground interest and texture, with the colour in the foreground and on the horizon. Would it also work as a monochrome conversion?
ReplyDelete2) Keith W. Silhouettes work so well when the profiles are clearly defined, as here. The sky is threatening - always good for a dramatic seascape.
3) Malcolm R. Nicely observed. The local flash of colour on the seedshell (chestnut?) draws the eye in.
4) Michael B. The angle of view is unusual here, and the tonal range and geometry holds the viewer’s interest. Spiral staircases can be fun subjects.
5) Mike H. The boats offer a great leading line downstream to Southwark bridge and the “walkie-talkie” building beyond. Your photo does justice in B+W to a London scene that can be difficult to capture convincingly.
6) Mick M. A great capture. The Mediterranean light is wonderful. I think it would also be effective as a panorama (16:9) that omits the olive trees in the foreground, but perhaps that would be a crop too far!
7) Phil C. An unusual angle of view from a high point. It works well, in challenging low light. The colour enhances the mood, and the illuminated paving draws the eye to the figures below.
8) Mine.
A really good month for photos.
ReplyDeleteElaine J
Good leading lines with the wooden stakes, and the your eyes are forced to take an abrupt turn with the stream/creek?
Keith W
A nice traditional family by the beach shot, well executed with a good range of tones.
Malcom R
This makes me smile as the horse chestnut outer shell looks like a cartoon character with two little eyes on top.
Michael B
A great B+W shot with really nice tones.
At first I was a bot concerned about the verticals, but looking at it again - I like it this way as the spiral staircase and off centre verticals make for a disorienting image that is dizzying.
Mike M
A lovely landscape shot with great composition.
Phil C
Excellent visually and an interesting shot, I like the contrast of the light greens with the Shop sign and the nights dark tones.
Richard B
A good portrait B+W, with good lighting and an implied storyline - it would have been nice to have avoided the young lady on the LHS, but hey you have to capture the moment, which is exactly what you did.
Elaine J - St. Osyth: Hey, what are you doing on my patch? If our timing was right I would have a photo of you taken from beside the distant tower at Brightlingsea. Can't show it here as it was taken on my Nikon. Nice leading lines to those colourful beach huts.
ReplyDeleteKeith W. - Beach Walk: An ideal mono with silhouetted walkers and an interesting sky.
Malcolm R. - Nestling: Well spotted, with some interesting textures. Should work well in mono.
Mike B. - Vortex: Mine
Mike H. - Storm Clouds Over The City: A lovely crisp mono with good leading lines and dramatic sky. It works well.
Mick M. - Targa Florio Route: An idyllic landscape. One can only imagine the cacophony of noise shattering the peace when the race was on.
Phil C. - Beltane & Pop: I love the colours and the angle of the shot. The two figures illuminated by the bar front are the icing on the cake.
Richard B. - Together: The lighting on their faces from what I assume is a shop window works well. I think a closer crop homing in on the faces and hand and eliminating most of the girl might also work.
1 Elaine. The line of posts (perhaps a little too tightly cropped ?) lead the eye into the picture and across the water to the distant, similarly shaped tower and row of coloured huts. A good vertical composition with a high horizon and strong foreground.
ReplyDelete2 Keith W. Dramatic lighting for a familiar seaside scene with the family complete with dog walking along the edge of the sea. I feel the image is unbalanced with the bright water running off the right hand edge of the frame and the dark areas on the left. A few seconds later and the group would have made a more effective silhouette against that sparkle.
3 Me.
4 Michael B. By simply tilting the camera what was already a remarkable spiral staircase has been turned into a fascinating abstract composition beautifully lit from above. The ribbon like strips of the handrails are particularly good. The three spots (emergency lighting?) I would be very much inclined to eliminate.
5 Mike H. A good view along the river displaying the current architectural penchant for oddly shaped buildings (how long they will last remains to be seen). Something about the light does not feel quite right, the bright sky behind the clouds suggest that the buildings and boats should be in deeper shadow than seems to be the case - the wonders of post processing?
6 Mick M. A fine sense of depth here with the dark foreground and background and the lighter fields (they look as if they have been painted in) between. The light and colours on the nearer mountain really brings the whole to life.
7 Phil C. I like the contrast between the lit but deserted offices and the dark and nearly deserted forecourt(?) with the mobile bar. The two shadowy figures bottom left add a touch of mystery and the two matching but separate brown triangles break up the otherwise predominantly green/black image.
8 Richard B. They appear to be very serious about some kind of light source outside of the frame maybe a shop window ? Intriguing but we, like them, are in the dark.
1. Elaine J
ReplyDeleteThink I would like to see a bit more detail/texture in wooden posts. 2. Me
3. Malcolm R
Plenty of texture here. A nice spot to nestle. Good shot.
4. Michael B
A well seen shot. Like the dynamic composition. Think I would like to see at least one complete spiral
5. Mike H
Shots like this never fail to hold interest. Nicely taken and processed.
6. Mick M
The wonderful Targa Florio. Bet the competitors didn’t see much of the scenery. Lovely light and nicely composed.
7. Phil C
Impressed with the way the M10 has handled the white balane, with lovely clean whites in the name sign. The figures in the patch of light are just right. Excellent shot.
8. Richard B
The light source for the two figures is super. Did we ought to see what they are looking at? Nice shot.
