Nicely timed shot.Looks a good day for flying.
Dennis A
Another super image from an exotic location. Great colours especially the chickens. The background sign is so vibrant it does draw the eye away from the subject a little.
Julian P
Good IQ from the ‘phone. Would benefit from more light or a pp tweak.

The flooded landscape certainly provides some photo opportunities. Love the reflections in this shot. Great depth to the shot.
Michael B
It’s an ill wind that certainly brought you a great opportunity. Great image with fine detail, and you have handled the highlights and shadow very well.
Paul H
Cracking monochrome image. (Which Monochrom as matter of interest?)
Phil C
Probably would like to see the windmill have a bit more prominence. Possibly a crop just above out of focus reed and left side?
Philip G
Good shot well suited to black and white . Great sky really sets the hut off very well.
Richard B
Saw this model rather a lot in the adverts leading up to Christmas. Nicely captured here but think would prefer a wider view.
Vincenzo V
Very nice street portrait and like his expression, but not sure if the basically plain background works for me, especially with the amount of blank space on the left.
David F Strong colour and good left-right juxtaposition
ReplyDeleteDennis A An interesting scene and a very good composition (even down to his sweat shirt slogan!)
Julian P Good low viewpoint and moody low light colours
Keith W Effective early morning lighting to brighten the scene
Malcolm R The muted colours worked well
Michael B ‘Well seen’ - you must have found the only worthwhile lighting that day!
Paul H The side lighting has given a variety of particularly interesting textures
Phil C I lost the foreground shadow detail but I imagine the actual file is really good.
Philip G Mine
Richard B Good shot: it shows how good the Q2 can be wide open and at high ISO.
Vincenzo V A very fine street portrait: he looks like he is ready for a chat!
1) David F. An unusual composition, carefully timed to capture the aeroplanes, both static and in flight. My eye goes first to the brightest part of the image, in this case the cloth cover on the cockpit, which does not do the image justice.
ReplyDelete2) Dennis A. A fun image, nicely executed. I guess the food miles will be very low!
3) Julian P. Your image demonstrates admirably the quality of the mobile phone with integral Leica lens.
4) Keith W. A tranquil, British harbour scene. The left hand side of the frame, and upper half of the sky add little to the composition and, in my view, could be omitted to create a stronger image.
5) Malcolm R. A sign of our times under excessive rainfall in the UK. I like the top half of the frame. If it was mine, and it is not, I would delete the stand of reedmace in the foreground, using a 16:9 panoramic crop.
6) Michael B. In monochrome, this suggests both a workshop and a market stall. The stance of the girls works well. I am not sure that monochrome complements this composition.
7) Paul H. Lines, textures and tones usually work well in monochrome, as here. A reminder that there is a potential photo around every corner. We cannot know whether this does justice to the artist’s graffiti (presumably colour) on the roller shutter.
8) Phil C. A strong leading line captured along the dyke in this, the first nature reserve to be cared for by the National Trust. The distant wind pump is almost lost visually against a background of trees which is a shame.
9) Philip G. I like this image. The old hut, clad in corrugated iron and supporting numerous buoys, has character. I am guessing you have used an ND grad filter here, but perhaps I am wrong.
10) Richard B. My photo.
11) Vincenzo V. I like the simple composition - almost studio-like. The man has an expression of contentment, and looks out of the frame. Is it candid, or staged, no matter it works. The IQ of the Leica Q-P shows in the texture of the light render finish on the wall in the background.
David F
ReplyDeleteGreat colour, three planes with one airborne. A great combination for a photographer.
Dennis A
What a dream photo. Fantastic. Multicoloured chickens yet so much in keeping with the basic colour palette in the rest of the image. And the feeling that nothing is posed. So natural and the subject is beautifully located with local wall script.

So much colour. It has to be December with such clear sky!
Malcolm R
This has been the year of flooded fens and washes well imaged by a range of photographers. This adds to the national archive.
Michael B
Good title and the concentration is evident. Well seen and well framed.
Paul H
Ultimate grittiness. So this is what the MM is capable of. A good test of a camera but for me an unexciting composition.
Phil C
I was a fan of Wicken Fen during my 40 years in Cambridge. I knew it in all seasons. I am sorry to say I don’t feel I know it any better after studying this image.
Philip G
This appeals to me. Reminds me of a TV set for Vera I saw in Alnmouth where some local adornments were added to the established street and beach architecture.
Richard B
Impeccable. Peerless.
Vincenzo V
Very natural. I do like the red Coke can and the placing of the subject. It really works. I need to learn to follow this and try some more off-beat angles. Thanks for this. Well done.
1 David F. The two grounded aircraft facing left and the Airmail flying right give a tension to the composition that works well.
ReplyDelete2 Dennis A. A cracking shot that owes much to the vendor’s millinery skills. The indecipherable (to us) lettering on the wall breaks up the blank space and contrasts wonderfully with that on the shirt - although I would not hold out too much hope for the chickens.
3 Julian P. A fascinating landscape, presumably it is tidal? The cloud formations have created some interesting reflections in the water, maybe a little less foreground?
4 Keith W. Vibrant colour and nice distortion in the reflections of the boats. The bits of boats on the left jar rather and could easily be cropped out perhaps reducing the sky area to restore the height/width ratio.
5 Me.
6 Michael B. You have captured the girls in a strong shaft of light and a moment of boredom, they are both in their own little individual worlds and hardly aware of any potential customers never mind the stray photographer.
7 Paul H. A very contrasty image maybe overly so. The picture on the door is not as clear as it might be and I imagine that is what caught your attention - perhaps a more head on angle would have worked better.
8 Phil C. Typical watery Wicken Fen complete with the distant pump. The vertical format highlights the ditch/dyke but to do it justice the foreground needs to be better defined I feel.
9 Philip G. A characterful hut nicely lit by the sun behind it and the other sun to the left! I love the title - and the fact that there is not a drop of water to be seen makes it slightly surreal. I imagine it would be very garish in colour so the decision to render it in monochrome was a good one.
10 Richard B. The Q (not to mention yourself) has made a fine job of a tricky exposure retaining the shadows without blowing the highlights in the lamps. The massive advertisement dwarfs the passers by and presumably does little for the outlook of the occupants of the building behind it. I would have liked a little more on the left to include the whole of the lamp providing a balance with the one on the right.
11 Vincenzo V. I like the muted tones here relieved by the touch of red in the can. His position in the frame is unusual with that expanse of textured wall on the left and smaller area of smooth wall on the right but it does seem to work.
David F
ReplyDeleteVery nicely timed shot! If the grey plane was totally framed by the sky, it would have been a more powerful image, in my opinion, but I appreciate the difficulty of doing that. Also, on my screen, the image looks just a little bit too dark
Dennis A
Wonderful street photo! I love how different shades of blue blend with each other and the contrast with the red elements
Julian P
Wonderful rendering of details and interaction between the colour of sky/water and grass. Maybe I would have cut off the foreground just a tiny bit?
Keith W
Very pleasant maritime image. Maybe I would have cut off the two boats on the left. Also, maybe a bit more contrast added to the white boat in the centre?
Malcolm R
I love the depth of the image and the strong presence of the diagonal foreground. I wonder how it would look with a very very subtle dehazing?
Michael B
The image perfectly sums up the situation! Wonderful rendering of highlights and shadows
Paul H
Wonderful representation of so many different textures! In terms of composition, to me the image lacks of something… maybe I would have placed the garage door slightly more on the left, but it would have been a pity to cut off the white stain on the left wall
Phil C
I love the image and the blurred foreground, but I think photo should give more justice to the windmill
Philip G
Absolutely sublime and somehow very moving! I really love both the contrast of tones and of shapes in the photo
Richard B
Very beautiful image with a very distinctive Parisian feel. The snow in the billboard gives me a very nice sense of tension: I wish it could escape the frame!
David F - ‘Poste Haste’: I too find the yellow aircraft catches the eye but do like the juxtaposition of the flying and static aircraft. Yes, in an ideal world the bi-plane could be framed by the sky but it is rare to enjoy that sort of luck in this situation.
ReplyDeleteDennis A - ‘Chicken Seller’: A colourful image of a great character. It is a pity that there is a clash between the writing on the wall and his load.
Julian P - ‘Munlochy Bay’: Another demonstration of how good phone images can be. Maybe a little lacking in foreground interest.
Keith W - ‘Still December Morning’: Beautiful colours and reflections. I would get rid of the boats on the left by cropping in from the top left corner, keeping the same aspect ratio.
Malcolm R - Gt Ouse Floodplain’: I like your chosen viewpoint. The diagonal lead in from bottom left to the tree and then the diagonal along the line of trees takes us right through the image.
Mike B - ‘Searching for Customers’: Mine
Paul H - ‘Leica Monochrome’: Putting aside the equipment envy, I love the rich blacks and tones in general but I’m not sure this is the most interesting of subjects.
Phil C - ‘Wicken Fen’: The windmill does get a bit lost in this composition Phil. I personally would only use the top half of the image in landscape format, but what do I know?
Philip G - ‘Unsinkable Hut’: Great shot and perfect in monochrome.
Richard B - ‘ No.5 L’eau ‘: Beautifully exposed shot but maybe slightly stronger if you had included a little more to the left?
Vincenzo V - ‘Man at Whitecross Street Festival’: An interesting character . I think the inclusion of the hand a coke can is important here.
