Well seen and an interesting sculpture study, enhanced by the muted green/grey colouring.

    David F
Landing or preparing for take-off? Either way a study in suspended animation.

    Dennis A
    Another superb landscape composition.

    Elaine J
The little Lumix made a creditable capture of this landscape.

    Julian P
Good lighting has enhanced the colours in this scene.

    Keith W
An interesting event: the girl seems to be wearing an authentic racing suit as if she is ready for the flag.

    Malcolm R
A good still life composition, lifted by the sunlight coming through the window.

    Michael B
Plenty of other snappers seem to have been there that day but i think you chose a more effective advantage point.

    Nitin C
A frozen moment and a glimpse of daily life in Hong Kong.

    Paul H
A study in light and shade from an interesting viewpoint.

    Phil C
A good story to be interpreted here with that handshake and the smiling observer in the background made the shot.

    Richard B
Excellent natural lighting for a fine portrait.

    Tom L
A good composition. For me it’s a picture that ‘reads well’ from left to right.

Nice exposure and colours but personally I think it could have been improved by taking from a lower view point to include the faces ..... just my opinion.

    David F
A good shot taken at the right time just before lift-off.

    Dennis A
Lovely colours and for me a great composition. I think you’ve put the horizon in the perfect place.

    Elaine J
Nice composition with the foreground leading one through to the buildings.

    Julian P
Great shot, very much like the colours and composition.

    Keith W
That APO lens certainly performs well to bring out great detail.

    Malcolm R
Nice record shot. I went to the Shuttleworth Collection a couple of months ago, prior to that I didn’t realise how extensive it was.

    Michael B
Great shot with perfect composition. Monochrome being my thing I really do like this one.

    Nitin C
Interesting image with the characters all going their own way. I do like the colours and composition.

    Paul H
Very nice and well executed. You did well with the exposure not to blow out the highlights coming through the window.

    Paul C
Nice candid shot, love the expression on the women’s face.

    Philip G
Great street shot, like the effect of the wide angle lens. I never think about going wide in the street, usually 35, or 50.

    Richard B
Lovely portrait, I particularly like the smooth skin tones.

A clever title that adds to the way I see the photo.

    David
The blur of the propellor is key to this, well caught as it taxis or perhaps is preparing to take off. They are a lovely sight and the sound is even better.

    Dennis A
This is sublime. The framing breaks the rules but it looks great.

    Elaine
A well choose angle to ensure the castle towers over the surrounding lands, nicely done.

    Julian
Yet again some wonderful light, you can almost smell the woodland and hear the crunch underfoot, though it seems there is a fence to get over first!

    Keith
At Goodwood I assume? I watched the races on tv and they had a few highlights of the pedal car race, looks like great fun.

    Malcolm
The light is well controlled and the balance of nature and man made makes for an interesting image.

    Michael
A stunning picture. Well timed, perfect framing and the light just right. Can’t ask for more.

    Nitin
The figures are nicely separated and all in a similar pose making for a good picture.

    Paul
I want to know more about this one, who are they?

    Philip
A well seen moment with some nice interaction, though he doesn’t seem to have much for sale.

    Richard
A lovely portrait, I like her expression.

    Tom
A quiet moment, nicely caught and great tones.

There is a difficulty in trying to avoid the distraction of the footpath and obtaining a clear view of the faces of the children. I would have tried again with a different angle to get the faces seen to better advantage. The colour and texture of the sculpture are very realistic.

    David F

The blur round the propellor suggests that the plane was moving or about to move/about to stop. The plane is well framed and seems quite at home on a grass runway.

    Dennis A

Beautiful colour. We have a somewhat similar looking hill profile near where I live in which it is easy to see the silhouette of a face and bust of a lady with the remaining less bumpy section being seen as the body. So, in this image I am looking to see a lying women again - and I can be convinced.

    Elaine J

A good view but there must be a tilt as the verticals of the castle are sloping. It detracts from my appreciation.

    Julian P

    Mine

    Keith W

A good fresh image which exudes excitement and perhaps innocence. It hangs together well with all the participants although iy would have been better if the third player had a complete head.

    Malcolm R

Restful. Just needs some soft music. First class. Put it in an AV.

    Michael B

Good title. I bet he did not sew the words on his trousers. Excellent control of depth of field. Does give emphasis where it was needed. I am perfectly happy this is a back view and so not distracted by his face. The hat is tops.

    Nitin C

A good moment. Very different people. Except for the writing I would not have thought this to be from China/Hong Kong. Grateful to you for sharing it.

    Paul H

Rather dark and bleak on my laptop screen. I am sure there is detail that would have made a positive impact. I wonder too about the framing. I would have axed the left edge with the out of focus bump and then considered afresh the rest for a potential further crop.

    Phil C

Great isolation of the essential elements of the image with a narrow depth of field working to advantage. Colourful, well-lit and interesting. A good handshake. The making of the picture.

    Philip G

I am not sure what the boss does, or how one knows he is the boss. He seems very detached from the garments on offer. Perhaps there is a story in that.

    Richard B

Is this lady well-known? or just an acquaintance. You have photographed her very well and the image seems is of the highest quality. But what is she holding? A mobile phone, or nothing, or are we seeing some ear jewellery. I am a bit puzzled.

    Tom L

Nice picture. Why the title tablets? Is this a word that can be applied to gravestones, or has the individual more than one smart device in his hands? The full density range creates a compelling image.

  5. 1. Alan T. It is a statue that captures beautifully the impression of the children absorbed in what they are doing. From an adult perspective we would normally be looking down at them as you have shown but I wonder whether a lower viewpoint showing more of their faces would work equally as well? Maybe to do that would include a far more intrusive background, we can only guess.

    2. David F. The shutter speed has caught the movement in the propeller nicely and it is well framed. Did you get a shot with the wheels off the ground ?

    3. Dennis A. Superb colours and contrast but the lighter layer across the bottom rather spoils it for me, it looks like a fault of some kind but I’m sure it isn’t.

    4. Elaine J. A good view across the fields to the castle which dominates the landscape. Just needs squaring up a touch to get the tower vertical.

    5. Julian P. Beautiful light beautifully captured, the browns, greens and blue are a great colour combination. One to enjoy on a grey November day.

    6. Keith W. A touch of fill in flash here perhaps? If so it is nicely done, there is a glow to the picture that gives it extra charm and life.

    7. Me.

    8. Michael B. It tells the story but I can’t help feeling that the photographer in the bottom left corner got the better shot of the speaker even if he missed the message on the trousers. Mid tones seem to be missing and I wonder whether some adjustment with the monochrome conversion could/would improve the tonal balance.

    9. Nitin C. People moving in all directions, I like the two silhouettes at the end of the alleyway. The slightly higher than normal viewpoint gives a different perspective to the street scene.

    10. Paul H. The title suggests that there is a story here somewhere , I’m sorry but I don’t see it, I like the smiley face on the floor tile though.

    11. Phil C. A well caught intimate moment amid the bustling crowds of the station which the chap looking on enjoys with us. A little story nicely told.

    12. Philip G. A joke shared. He must be the boss, he’s not doing anything!

    13. Richard B. Very nicely done, is this in the Leica store in Mayfair?

    14. Tom L. Apt title. The amount of light being thrown up into his face is remarkable. A quiet moment with fag and phone among the ancestors.

    Alan T
    Nice statue, nicely recorded.

    David F
Taken at a good moment and propeller movement spot-on.

    Dennis A
Superb shot. Perhaps a little more foreground?

    Elaine J
Nice light on Castle. A little less foreground and a little more sky and a tweak to vertical?

    Julian P
Lovely woodland captured in lovely light.

    Keith W
    Me

    Malcolm R
Nicely handled exposure and a true colour shot.

    Micheal B
He seems popular with photographers, but I think you have best viewpoint. Sorry but I can’t see the glow ( but I am a glow non-believer!).

    Nitin C
Nicely caught moment with interesting detail everywhere.

    Paul H
Good to know they are Belgian! Again well handled exposure in difficult light.

    Phil C
Nicely captured moment of empathy between the two subjects.

    Philip G
A classic ‘street’ moment , especially using 15mm! Excellent framing!

    Richard B
Very nice casual portrait. Like the softness of her hand, but think I would loose the yellow.

    Tom L
Welcome back! Clever title and well seen.

  7. Alan T - Deep Conversation:
A beautiful statue well exposed, but I will join the others in wishing that you had changed your position to show more detail in the faces.

David F - Headcorn Airdrome: A well chosen shutter speed succeeds in giving movement to an otherwise static but well taken shot.

Dennis A - Bromo: I do like the composition which makes the best of those lovely colours. Maybe just burn in the bottom just a touch?

Elaine J - Bolsover Castle: Your viewpoint shows off this imposing structure well.

    Julian P - Balblair Wood:
    Beautiful colours, well captured.

    Keith W - Junior Racers:
I like this but wonder if a step to the right to give a clearer view to the lad behind might have enhanced the image.

    Malcolm R - Conservatory Window:
A restful still life with beautiful colours. I like that the window is not central but the urn is, which jus adds a little tension.

    Mike B - Bible-basher: Mine

    Nitin C - Crossroads:
A colourful image which although not crowded with people successfully conveys a sense of hustle and bustle. Pity it is slightly on the tilt.

    Paul H - Belgium Couple:
A well handled exposure but I’m not sure about the composition.

    Phil C - Piano player:
Lovely interaction between the player and his lady fan. The endearing look on the face of the lad in the background adds to the mood.

Philip G - The Boss of Petticoat Lane:
This works well as a monochrome, again with a lovely interaction between the ‘players’. Crop some off the left perhaps?

    Richard B - Leila Lopes:
A super soft portrait of a pretty lady. I like the composition.

    Tom L - Tablets:
A clever title that gives more meaning to the image, and which works well as a monochrome. I hate that piece of rope!

  8. 1) Alan T. The colour and texture of the sculpture hold the eye. Nonetheless, the footpath is a distraction, not helped by being the brightest element in the photo. I wonder if it could have been eliminated by selecting a different viewpoint, or a lower angle of view?

    2) David F. A nicely timed, challenging shot that has captured the aircraft just as it touched down, its tail wheel still off the ground. A marginally slower shutter speed might have added interest by expressing better the rotation of the propeller.

    3) Dennis A. Lovely colours in an unusual composition - very effective to my mind.

    4) Elaine J. The light, falling on the castle and the meadow below, add interest and important contrast to a very English scene.

    5) Julian P. An attractive woodland scene. Always a challenge, the resplendent greens and the brown bracken, coupled with the "leading line” of the fence draws the viewer into the scene.

    6) Keith W. A busy scene. I can only guess at how quickly it was changing, knowing the energy and excitement of young children. It suggests a bygone age.

    7) Malcolm R. The colours and shadows bring this scene to life.

    8) Michael B. I like this picture a lot. There is a story here in Speakers’ Corner, and the viewer is left asking questions.

    9) Nitin C. A busy composition. The elevated viewpoint highlights the extensive concrete paving which, in turn, detracts from an otherwise colourful scene. However, I can see that the high viewpoint also helps to separate other elements to advantage.

    10) Paul H. Much as I like monochrome, I find it difficult to know what this photo portrays. What is the message? I am sorry if I am slow to understand it.

    11) Phil C. This photo tells a story - a moment of human warmth, and possibly gratitude or compassion. Selective focus is used to good effect.

    12) Philip G. The choice of an ultra wide angle lens is effective in conveying this street scene, including market stalls, in busy Brick Lane.

    13) Richard B. My photo.

    14) Tom L. Monochrome works well here in conveying shape, tone and texture. The seated man’s face is nicely lit, and his phone and attire anchors this image firmly in time.
