March 2016

Here are the image for March, 17 this time, so please vote and comment as usual.

1) Alan
An Air Display at Duxford: Leica V Lux 3, f/4, 1/1300 sec, 240mm lens, 100 ISO

2) Bernd
The Autumn tree: Just to bring a little bit colour to our life in these grey winter days. M9 - Voigtlander 21 mm / F 4.0 Color Skopar

3) Bill
Morgan door: Taken outside the local Aston Martin dealers with a Panasonic G5 and Leica 15mm Summilux.

4) David F
Door Art, Madeira January this year. There is a street in Funchal where all the doors are painted or have art work on them this rather appealed to me. Taken with an M6 + 35mm Summicron on Fuji Superia 200 ISO

5) David K
‘Eye on the Blue Door’ - taken at Bristol Harbourside. It was taken with my Leica M9 with the M 50mm Summilux f/1.4 Lens - exposed for 1/350 second at f/9.5 (ISO 160).

6) Elaine
Thornham sticks taken with Lumix FZ100
7) Jim
Spotted in Inverness: M6TTL Kodachrome. ( I don't think the lady in the white top was very happy) Can we have "K" back please?

8) Keith
A winter day. River Dart,Devon" Leice M(240)/Summicron 90mm

9) Malcolm
Tug O’ War Boots, taken at last year’s British ToW championships on an SL2 with 75/200mm Vario Elmar on HP5+ 1/1000 at f/4 and scanned from a 10x8 inch print. A Tug O’War is not an easy event to photograph successfully from the sidelines (or anywhere else for that matter) because it is such a long thin event, this image somehow epitomised the sport.

10) Mike
Decidedly non-Japanese players at the Japan Matsuri festival in Trafalgar Square last September. Taken with Leica Q wide open at f/1.7 and 1/8000s.

11) Phil
Birds on a wire, Panasonic LX100 and Leica lens

12) Philip G
Double Take: A lucky shot while out and about on a wet day. M(240), Summarit 35mm, 1/125 @ f11

13) Rob
Not in my back yard, Leica Q

14) Sky
The Big Apple with Leica V Lux.

15) Theodore
Sun and Storm, Leica D-Lux 3

16) Tom
Corn Village, a small fishing village in the Philippines, taken with the M9 and 28-35-50 Tri Elmar set at 50mm.

17) Tony - No image this month

18) William
Men and a Ford. Just 3 men doing what many men love to do; meeting and discussing old cars. Leica WATE on Fujifilm X-T1, a combination that works very well.

Aircraft flying are difficult things to photograph but you have done well, nicely placed and balanced.

    2 Bernd.
    Nice composition and colours

    3 Bill.
Like the abstract and the rain drops, very nice photo

    4 Dave F.
    Mine.

    5 David K.
The idea is very good but I think I would have cropped top, bottom, LHS & RHS to just the fingers and door.

    6 Elaine.
Different but for me a record shot.

    7 Jim.
Intriguing but why the group on their knees? .

    8 Keith.
Another great train photo, this one I think is one of you best lovely winter colours.

    9 Malcolm.
Superb nice detail and full of potential action.

    10 Mike.
    Background nicely oof, good shot.

    11 Phil.
Afraid not for me this one, too dark and having three birds would make a better ‘balance’.

    12 Phillip G.
This is very well thought out and seen, super detail.

    13 Rob.
Do not know what to make of this photo!

    14 Sky.
Superb shot, would have liked the background to be more oof to make the ‘apple’ stand out more.

    15 Theodore.
    Good record shot, nice colours.

    16 Tom.
A little bit over sharpened for me but still a good composition.

    17 Tony.
    No photo.

    18 William.
A lot going on in the background, would moving left to isolate the men and then the top of the car only?

  2. 1) Alan
Excellent composition and rendering particularly with high contrast and back lit.

    2) Bernd
Beautiful colours- that's the M9 and is wonderful sensor in Bernd's expert hands. Well framed and composed. A piece of art.

    3) Bill
Technically excellent and I love the different tones.Great use of light too. I like it very much.

    4) David F
I love the composition, sensible cropping and rendition. The saturation from the Superia is amazing. Great choice of subject taken with my favourite lens. Nice work

    5) David K
Beautifully rendered and composed. I would personally have not cropped it as closely. Really good job though

    6) Elaine
Nicely taken macro shot with good bokeh. Love the rainbow and colour saturation.

    7) Jim
A lot going on here and good composition and depth of field - I love the way Kodachrome delivers consistently and what can one say about the wonderful M6TTL?
In Jim's hands a compelling combination.

    8) Keith
Very atmospheric shot beautifully with superb composition

    9) Malcolm
Lovely fun shot which tells a story. Technically excellent with good use of grain.

    10) Mike
Nice portrait well rendered - surprised not more blurring at f1.7 but nicely done

    11) Phil
I love this - nice story and beautifully done with great composition. Very Leonard Cohen / Paul Weller.

    12) Philip G
Lovely piece of reportage, love the use of window's reflection for framing, great tone and grain- excellent work

    13) mine

    14) Sky
Unusual subject nicely cropped. Maybe better in monochrome but well done.

    15) Theodore
A beautiful scene, beautifully rendered and framed. Really excellent composition

    16) Tom
I love this in every way particularly the clouds and the reflections. Excellent technically and beautiful aesthetically. Super work

    17) Tony
    N/a

    18) William
Great subject and well shot conversation. Nice tone and grain. Personally I would have zoomed out a bit to get more of the cars on show to provide some context and atmosphere but nice work all the same.

  3. David F, My thoughts, Praying? Or one of the group has lost a Contact Lens,or it could be a BINGO game. "Eyes Down Look In" It was the "D Moment" as our man would say. Every picture tells a Story !!!!! Jim C.

  4. 1) Alan: Duxford Air Display
Well composed shot not that you would have had much time to compose it! The aesthetic purists would love the symmetry of three objects in a triangle.

    2) Bernd: The Autumn tree
Good colour balance: I liked the perfect spread of the lower branches.

    3) Bill: Morgan door
A fascinating shot which was well seen and a good abstract subject.

    4) David F: Door Art, Madeira
Well seen: this is one that makes the viewer think a bit. An even closer crop of one portion might make a great still life.

    5) David K: Eye on the Blue Door
Good shot. I have walked past this work many times but never realised how well the blue door completed the picture; drat!

    6) Elaine: Thornham sticks
An interesting composition with great lighting.

    7) Jim: Spotted in Inverness
What on earth were they up to? There must be a story there.

    8) Keith: Winter day
Fine ‘soft’ colours make this a good landscape shot.

    9) Malcolm: Tug O’ War Boots
Excellent in both detail and processing.

    10) Mike: Decidedly non-Japanese players at the Japan Matsuri festival
A great street shot with plenty of life in it.

    11) Phil: Birds on a wire
Another fine silhouette. Obviously you are a nature lover who could’t bring himself to shoot the fourth bird to leave that perfectly balanced threesome!

    12) Philip G: Double Take
    Mine

    13) Rob: Not in my back yard
I liked the small sign to the lower left offering MOT servicing.

    14) Sky: The Big Apple
I must have abstract photographs on the brain at the moment - for me this is another shot that would make a fascinating abstract with a closer crop that excludes the background context.

    15) Theodore: Sun and Storm
Good colour and a fine landscape.

    16) Tom: Corn Village
Remembering your work from previous months I think this is another superb shot and I enjoyed it very much.

    18) William: Three Men and a Ford
An excellent shot and well spotted. I wonder what a closer crop would look like - excluding some of the surroundings and car detail to the left, but concentring on the story of the thee enthusiasts.

  5. 1. Alan
I think the grouping you have captured is excellent and what luck that the gold coloured
    plane sits against the cloud.

    2. Bernd
A magnificent tree and I like that the “turned” leaves form a natural frame.

    3. Bill
Lovely and interesting detail shot, enhanced by raindrops.

    4. David F
Looking at the detail of this art work there must have been many hours spent making it. Well captured.

    5. David K
Well spotted and well taken. Shame the vehicles distract slightly.

    6.Elaine
Lovely light, but not sure rainbow adds anything.

    7.Jim
Sort of activity that gets passers by looking and wondering - or sighing. As a picture, shame about foreground chair.

    8.Me

    9. Malcolm
Fabulous shot with super sharp detail. Lovely textures.

    10.Mike
A fun couple having a good time and well taken.

    11. Phil
I like the idea but think the birds need to be in precisely the right spot to make it stand out.

    12. Philip
Who remembers Harry Worth? Super shot, very well spotted and taken. The framing or cropping is perfect. Well worth going out on a wet day.

    13. Rob
Beautiful at sea, an eyesore on land

    14. Sky
Very clever, but difficult to judge the scale of the piece.

    15. Theodore
Lovely tranquil scene. May have swopped a bit of the foreground for more sky, personally.

    16. Tom
    Super shot and processing

    17.Tony

    18. William
All is well then. Nicely framed and I think the perspective helps the picture.

    ReplyDelete
  6. 1 Alan. The planes are nicely positioned within the frame and they have been captured at a moment when the upper and lower wings of each aircraft are clearly visible with no overlap. The hint of cloud breaks monotony of a clear blue sky and the single yellow plane adds that touch of contrasting colour. A good one.

2 Bernd. The central positioning of the tree gives a balanced composition, colours are good and by darkening the edges the light is concentrated on the centre of the tree enhancing the luminous effect.

3 Bill. I like the simplicity and subtle greys of this. The choice of framing has resulted in a near abstract pattern but the key hole and raindrops give us a clue as to what we are seeing.

4 David F. This is a real puzzle. Someone has gone to a great deal of trouble to make an incredible sculpture of of odd scraps of metal and that in itself is worth a photograph - but I cannot for the life of me see how it works as a door!

5 David K. For me the subject matter here is the bronze(?) hand, the blue door is certainly eye-catching but to my mind rather than contributing to the image it detracts from it. Perhaps a more limited depth of field or a slightly different taking position would remove it from the eye-line.

6 Elaine. The dark sky, rainbow and strong sidelight on the “sticks” certainly make for a dramatic picture but I’m not comfortable with the overall yellow appearance of the image, it may be a true representation of the atmospherics at the time but to my eye it just does not look right.

7 Jim. Anybody’s guess what is going on here, it may be an impromptu prayer meeting (there’s lots of sole in evidence) or maybe they are playing dice? Either way it is an intriguing picture. The red sign is very blurred at the top, less so below - an odd depth of field phenomena that I have not noticed before.

8 Keith. The little train looks perfectly in place chugging along the riverbank in the winter sunshine. The sun has caught and highlighted the smoke which in turn casts its shadow on the embankment. Frost (?) on the ground completes the picture.

    9 Me.

10 Mike. A pair of colourful characters well separated from the background crowd by the f1.7 - which has also thrown the chap’s left hand slightly out of focus. Whatever it is that they are doing they seem to be very happy doing it.

11 Phil. All those trees and all four of them have to sit on a lamppost. The silhouette treatment works rather well.

12 Philip G. The reflections cause the shadows to fall in opposing directions, those of the bollard aiming directly to the feet of the Hooded One. Well seen and timing spot on. Is this not the same location as Bernd’s night-time shot of St Pauls in the December round?

13 Rob. Boats parked on driveways are not all that uncommon (at least not in this part of the world) but there is a certain quirkiness about the implied connection between it and the “tyres, service exhaust etc.” sign. The white stripe on the right is presumably the house next door and as such would give emphasis to the confinement of the boat if we could see more of it but as it is it simply confuses the picture.

14 Sky. Tight framing eliminates so far as is possible the unwanted background to this clever piece of sculpture. I am reminded of Wynne Bullock’s picture of a halved apple where the seeds in the core give the appearance of a face.

15 Theodore. I like the contrast between the misty blues and the crisp, well defined vines and vineyards in the foreground. The hint of sparkle on the water and the little white cloud add to the charm of the scene.

16 Tom. First rate depiction of this watery village. The reflections, the houses, the vegetation beyond and the cross on top of the hill plus a wonderful sky all combine to make a great image. Just three people visible on the extreme LHS.

    17 Tony. No image.

18 William. Lovely car - in better condition than when it came out of the showroom originally?

  7. 1. Alan : An Air Display at Duxford.
There is a lovely shape in the flight. Well composed and the clouds are also well captured.

    2. Bernd: The Autumn Tree.
Nice Autumn scene. The branches seem to be reaching out to the embarce the photographer and the viewer.

    3. Bill: Morgan Door.
Nice abstract from a car door. Works very well in black and white.

    4. David F: Door Art, Madeira.
Nicely seen and well composed. Where is the door handle?

    5. David K: ‘Eye on the Blue Door’.
I presume the intention was to focus on the blue door and not the encircling hand. Personally, I would have done this the other way around but the choice always lies with the photographer.

    6. Elaine: Thornham Sticks.
Excellent saturated colours. After a storm , I presume.

    7. Jim: Spotted in Inverness.
I like the eye contact from the lady in white. There is an air of mystery here. Who or what is “K”?

    8. Keith: River Dart, Devon.
Another lovely train shot from Keith. The curve in the river enhances the shot.

    9. Malcolm: Tug O’War Boots.
Those look like some really strong boots. This really contains a sense of action about to start.

    10. Mike: Matsuri Festival.
Smiley happy people, well captured. Is Slurp a restaurant? I’m not sure I would want to dine in a restaurant of that name.

    11. Phil: Birds on a Wire.
Lovely silhouette effect. The photo has me wondering how so many birds can land on such a small amount of ‘real estate’ without knocking one another off.

    12. Philip G: Double Take.
I had to do a ‘double take myself when I saw this. Very effective use of window reflections.

    13. Rob: Not in my back yard.
Humorous shot and title. I wonder what the neighbours think of this?

    14. The Big Apple.
Nicely taken. Is this related to Apple, the well known ICT company, or to New York City?

    15. Theodore: Sun and Storm.
A nice landscape ‘made’ by the tall tree beside the house and the small cloud across the water.

    16. Tom: Corn Village:
Lovely light in this landscape. Well composed with the hill with the cross in just the right position in the photo.

    17. Tony: No photo.

    18. William : Mine.

    2. Bernd. Lovely Colours in the Tree Well framed shot

    3. Bill. Works very well in Black and White

    4. David F. It appeals to me too Most unusual and would be lovely to witness

    5. David K. Very well framed shot exposure was well done

    6. Elaine. Lovely idea but overall yellow image in my opinion detracts from a totally atmospheric picture. Having said that think I would have been pleased just to get that shot.

    7. Jim. Excellent photo just wish chair had been moved.

    8. Keith. Lovely photo composition, colour, exposure detail in river all spot on in my opinion.

    9. Malcolm. Cant fault your idea but does not work for me

    10. Mike. Excellent interesting photo with plenty of interest

    11. Phil. Super photo and well captured I like the shape of the left tree which would make a nice subject on its own

    12. Phillip G. Excellent idea well presented for impact I would have cropped the post and other reflection right hand side.

13 Rob. Not for me sorry Rob

    14. Sky. Lovely photo well spotted texture and reproduced nicely.

    15. Theodore. Excellent photo Composition cannot be faulted perfect exposure as well.

    16. Tom Very nice photo and looks lovely in Black and White reflections in water well captured.

    17. Tony No photo

    18. William. Interesting photo the moment well captured.

  9. 1) Alan
Lovely image of these three aircraft flying in perfect formation for you. As they say, it’s great to have three’s in any image.
    2) Bernd
Love the symmetry and composition of this image. The colours are great but maybe a little lightening on the sides could help the definition; although having said that I am viewing on an uncalibrated screen.
    3) Bill
Great image with the main feature being placed perfectly on the thirds. The black & white treatment and drops of water (assume you didn’t use a spray bottle) both add greatly to it.
    4) David F
Fun image with excellent colours and great composition.
    5) David K
Bristol is a great city for inspirational photography and this is no exception, although I may have been tempted to open the lens aperture to around f2.0 in order to throw the background out of focus and make the statue stand out more. All a matter of personal preference though.
    6) Elaine
What fabulous lighting and of course the rainbow is an added bonus. Great colour and composition make an excellent image, well done.
    7) Jim
Maybe someone dropped a sixpence, or as it’s in Scotland maybe even a penny. Whatever, it’s a fleeting moment well captured. The guy in the red jumper and the out of focus red sign really help provide balance.
    8) Keith
Love it, especially the subdued winter colours. The only slight negative comment I would have is the dark patch at the bottom right of the image keeps drawing my eye away from the main subject.
    9) Malcolm
Wow, what a great black & white image which wonderfully portrays the event. I’d have never thought of taking just the boot and rope which to me is really inspirational.
    10) Mike
Lovely example of street photography and great that you used the lens wide open to separate the main characters from the background. The various items of red clothing and the two red banners in the background really “round off” the image.
    11) Phil
Certainly different to “birds on a stick” and much more interesting. I do like the silhouette effect and think it’s a perfect composition for black & white.
    12) Philip G
Well seen and captured. Must admit it did take me a couple of minutes to realise it was a reflection rather than two guys wearing the same coat. It’s a great subject for black & white and I think the composition is perfect.
    13) Rob
I can understand what you mean when you say “Not in my back yard”. The only criticism I can make is that if it were my image I would crop it slightly on the right side to take out that white vertical (well almost vertical) piece as it does detract from the main subject matter.
    14) Sky
I think this is great, a real eye-catcher. There really isn’t a lot more to be said.
    15) Theodore
Nice landscape image with an interesting sky.
    16) Tom
    17) Tony – no image
    18) William
Classic image which is perfect in black & white; good record shot. When taking similar scenes it can be worth trying to get a lower viewpoint but of course that would show less detail of the gentlemen but may be a more interesting angle for the car; it’s all personal preference.

  10. 1. Alan (Air Display At Duxford): Excellent shot of the aircraft, something that is often difficult to capture. I like the formation and the overall treatment. The reach of the V Lux lens is vindicated.
    2. Bernd (The Autumn Tree): Beautiful autumn tints with an impressive tree and interesting forest background.
    3. Bill (Morgan Door): This is a great shot of mechanical detail. The use of the water droplets makes the whole.
    4. David F (Door Art): Very impressive door, although it isn’t immediately apparent what is going on without the help of the caption. Definitely a photographer magnet.
    5. David K (Eye on the Blue Door): Interesting and unusual shot which works well, with the harbour houses framed effectively between the fingers.
    6. Elaine (Thornham sticks): Very impressive picture. This sticks alone have loads of interest and the rainbow just adds to the atmosphere. Lovely colours.
    7. Jim (Spotted in Inverness): Is this a prayer meeting? Can’t think what else they are doing. But aren’t they pointing in the wrong direction? This is an opportunity well taken.
    8. Keith (River Dart): Another atmospheric steam-train shot from Keith, nicely framed. I like the steam floating amid the trees.
    9. Malcolm (Tug O’War Boots): Effective detail shot, sharp and well framed, nice treatment in B&W.
    10. Mine.
    11. Phil (Birds on a wire): This works well in monochrom and it is certainly an unusual version of the birds-on-wire theme. Well seen and executed..
    12. Philip G (Double take): Clever and effective one-in-a-thousand opportunity and well processed. Lovely.
    13. Rob C (Not in my back yard): Nor mine, I hope. This would be a good one for the estate agent’s brochure.
    14. Sky (Big Apple): Nice arty shot but I would have preferred to see the Apple with a bit more space at either side, it looks like it has been cropped too savagely.
    15. Theodore (Sun and Storm): Lovely landscape, unusual composition and effective contrast between the green and blue.
    16. Tom (Corn Village): Well seen and very attractive composition, impressive reflections on the water, processing to my taste. All round a lovely picture.
    17. Tony (no entry)
    18. William (Men and a Ford): You don’t say which focal length on the WATE but the lens is used to good effect despite a slight perspective challenge. The group of enthusiasts, close together as they are, add interest and focus to the scene.

  11. 1) Alan
Nicely framed shot of the three aircraft in a balanced formation. Good exposure and the picture is strengthened by the cloud behind the gold biplane

    2) Bernd
Nice photograph of a fine tree. Well composed with lovely autumnal colours

    3) Bill
Unusual shot of a car door. Suited to monochrome and enhanced by the raindrops

    4) David F
Interesting picture of strange door art, akin to a scrap metal sculpture (difficult to make out the door). Well spotted

    5) Mine

    6) Elaine
Well composed photograph of the Sticks at Thornham with good lighting

    7) Jim
Strange gathering in this street photograph, with the group looking rather like a prayer meeting. Good depth of field. The chair in the foreground is somewhat of a distraction

    8) Keith
Good shot of the steam engine and carriages. Well composed photograph, enhanced by the amount of billowing steam

    9) Malcolm
Interesting close-up picture of the boots and rope. Well suited to monochrome and with good detail and textures

    10) Mike
Well-captured street photograph of the two colourful characters at the festival. Nicely exposed and with good depth of field

    11) Phil
Well-spotted picture of the ‘get-together’ of the four birds. Ideal in monochrome and having a good silhouette effect

    12) Phillip G
Fine street photograph, taking advantage of the glass reflection. Well spotted. Suited to monochrome. Nicely composed and with good exposure

    13) Rob
Interesting photograph of the boat in the ‘back yard’ strangely placed alongside a notice selling servicing for motor vehicles. Well exposed

    14) Sky
Well-spotted picture of the ‘apple’ sculpture. Good detail and exposure. Perhaps it might have been also suited to monochrome

    15) Theodore
Nice landscape photograph. Well composed and with good contrast between the vines in the foreground and the ‘stormy’ background

    16) Tom
Fine landscape photograph of the village huts, enhanced by the cross on the hill in the background. Well composed and with good exposure

    17) Tony
    No photograph

    18) William
Nicely framed picture of the old Ford, enhanced by the interest shown by the three enthusiasts. Well exposed and with good tones

  12. 1) Alan – Nicely caught in perfect formation. The V-Lux range is ideal for these sort of events. Haven’t been to an air show for years, used to go all the time, might see what is on at Old Warden this year.

    2) Bernd – I like the framing, the tree fills the whole space, lovely colour too.

    3) Bill – So simple, yet it shows how single elements and lines can be made to work, the tones are delightful too.

    4) David F – I can see the appeal of this, it must tell some sort of story, fascinating.

    5) David K – Good use of the sculpture, very clever.

    6) Elaine – Such great light, and the rainbow – all your wishes come at once. Very nice indeed.

    7) Jim – Not sure what they are doing, but an intriguing image.

    8) Keith – The joy of steam, nicely caught alongside the curving river. The smoke mixing with the branches works well.

    9) Malcolm - Very clever, excellent way to capture an event with a sideways glance, good tones too.

    10) Michael – They look like they are having fun, captures the feel of the moment well.

    11) Me

    12) Philip – Perfect symmetry – nicely processed.

    13) Rob – Not something everyone would want that close to home. Wonder how long it has been there?

    14) Sky – This is interesting, would like to know more about it and see it up close.

    15) Theodore – Hope the storm passed quickly, nicely framed with the lake curving away.

    16) Tom – Some strong processing adds drama to the image, the cross on the hill overlooking the community is perfect.

    17) No image

    18) William – Lovely machine, did you go for a ride? I like the slight tone to the image, seems to fit the subject well.

  13. 1) Alan
A difficult shot to capture in the best angle; a good composition.

    2) Bernd
A marvelous shot that is very 'painterly' in texture and colors. I love the way the tree fills the shot and almost envelops the viewer within its branches.

    3) Bill
Excellent use of B/W and the textures of water droplets and metal for this detailed 'deconstructionist' shot. The chrome bits have a very special texture here.

    4) DavidF
An interesting shot; I do think that if it were possible a little more saturation of the colors would add to the overall effect?

    5) DavidK
The hand is so dramatic on its own that I did not even notice the blue door until I saw the title. For me the background detracts; an ND filter might allow the hand to stand on its own better?

    6) Elaine
Another one of Elaine's marvelous and dramatic compositions which I enjoy so much; well done!

I also wish Kodachrome would come back, but it never will, alas! Too many poisonous chemicals to develop it, it seems. In all honesty the picture does not do very much for me in terms of composition or storytelling?

One of Keith's excellent train shots; I just have the feeling that the ideal vantage point would have been with the train a bit closer and the camera in the swamp on the left! But I imagine that must have been impossible without deep waders on ;-@)

Brilliant way to capture the mood and activity of this event in a single shot. Excellent all round.

    10) Mike
A street picture that captures the mood of a sunny outdoor event very well.

If this picture was completely black against the white background, the birds on the left with their heads down would not be well recognizable without their present shadow outlines. Ideally for me anyway it would be only black against white with no shadow details, but then the birds on the left would need to be positioned differently?

Great shot of reflections we see every day of the week and yet never 'see'. Well seen and well executed.

The juxtaposition of house and boat is tongue in cheek humorous, however the leftward tilt of the house and right side disturbs a bit. Not sure if this was the best angle for this idea, likely there were no other possibilities with the space at hand?

    14) Sky
Well spotted feature; a little too tightly cropped for my taste; perhaps forgetting the apple outline and zooming in only on the textures of the central section might activate the viewer to enjoy the
    natural patterns of the sculpture?

A wonderful shot with excellent post processing as far as I can tell. Highly evocative capture that draws the eye into all the small details that show up beautifully in B/W rendering.

Lovely moment; you can almost hear them chatting away about the car
