June 2013

Update: "Lots of issues with picture, but there is something I like about it..." said Theodore. Well it turns out he wasn't the only one to like it as it is this month's winning shot. Well done. It was a close call, with a couple of images running it close for first place.

Here we go again. A full set this month with 19 to chose from...

  1. 1) Bernd H – The only word that is appropriate is stunning. What a view! Great cloud formation as well, nice shot.
    2) Bill A – Another cracking shot. I like the atmosphere and use of light is as always just right.
    3) Bill S – The perfect moment to press the shutter. The expressions say it all, looks like the trip to Photographica was time well spent.
    4) Dave S – Nicely seen and executed, with detail retained throughout.
    5) David F – Good to see the movement in the wheels and the crowd. Looks like a fun car to drive.
    6) David K – A good day out I hope and an impressive sandcastle in the foreground.
    7) Del B – It looks like the fog and mist is enveloping the earth. I like the muted tones and framing, works well.
    8) Duncan K – Well done for getting a shot of Brian, hope he was pleased with his purchases.
    9) Elaine J – I like the angle this is shot at and the splash of red is just right.
    10) Howard F – Were you there at the same time as Elaine? Looks like this chap is not having a good day.
    11) Jim C – Another fun shot, well seen and executed. No doubt the dog is hoping they eat up soon so he can pop to the Pet Supplies shop.
    12) Keith M – The blue doors and bicycle do stand out and work nicely together.
    13) Keith W – Did you go aboard for a cruise? I was reading about the Waverley recently and had been meaning to take a trip one day.
    14) Malcolm R – Well spotted indeed. Great use of signs to make a photograph – very funny
    15) Me
    16) Robert H - Lots of power and action in this shot, good lighting as well. Nice one.
    17) Rob S – I like gentle shots like this, good framing and oh so simple – but lovely.
    18) Theodore D – I agree there is something to this, I really like it, though not exactly sure what it is, but that’s what appeals.
    19) Tony M – A good example of how to make a photograph with few elements. The light, tone and the lone bollard combine well.

  2. Bernd: Stunning mountain scenery. I really like the inclusion of the hut as it provides excellent scale.

Bill A: Making something out of a messy, cluttered scene. I suspect quite heavily worked but it has created drama out of the mundane. There are a couple of deeper orange line elements in the sky which, once seen, do keep attracting the eye and you might consider removing them.

Bill S: The action is very well caught with excellent expressions on the players. Just some distracting elements in the background which you will no doubt remove. I like the way the movement of the bat is shown.

Dave S: Very pleasing use of the light and the exposure of light and dark areas very well balanced. I just wonder what it would be like in colour.

David F: I like the way you show the car and also the background to give a context and record the ‘atmosphere’ of the event. The car is caught with a fast shutter speed so no real impression of speed but panning would have destroyed the background effect.

David K: A rather busy scene without the humour of last month’s image. The red bag really catches the eye.

Del B: The use of the long exposure removes any suggestion of a windy day. However, I do like the effect but wonder if it would ‘read’ a little stronger if flipped horizontally? Nice texture in the stonework and metal ramp.

Duncan K: BM doesn’t look to be very happy. A well caught ‘grab’ shot.

Elaine J: I guess the red matting caught your eye here on a wet day. The covered oar rest is rather distracting and I am unsure about the tilt to the left.

Jim C: Shame about the stacked chairs which partly hide the dogs. A good street scene and the sign adds the element of amusement.

Keith M: A very pleasing scene with all the colours being in harmony.

Keith W: Those red funnels really stand out. I do like the use of the queuing passengers. Maybe the background is a bit too sharp, use of dof might have softened it and made the vessel stand out a little more without destroying the context of place.

Malcolm R: This would be good amongst a series on Skegness. The sign above the stall could be removed to good effect but the quality here is not as it could be and so rather spoils the enjoyment of the image.

Phil C: Amusing repetition of gestures. Shame about the join in the window which rather divides the image into two sections. Digitally could be adjusted but not really feasible in a film/print combo.

Robert H: Well caught in performance. Could the two highlights behind him be removed and that on the guitar head on the left reduced a little? Dramatic lighting works well here.

Rob S: I like the simplicity of this but would like a little more drama in the lighting. Could easily be adjusted digitally.

Theodore D: You catch the playfulness of a dog walk very well. I do like the inclusion of the couple in the background and the sense of movement and happiness in the moment from both dog and humans.

Tony M: Very pleasing colours and the bollard is just right here. Very nice shadow detail on the wall.

    1.Bernd
Great location, stunning image. Bet it is even more impressive as a large print.

    2.Bill A
    Clever composition. Filter(s) or post-processing?

    3.Bill S
Good action shot with perfect timing to capture ball in that spot.

    4.Dave S
Lovely image with nice texture on walls. Is there any detail to be retrieved from shadow areas?

    5.David F
Take away the helmet and “armco” and this could be a 20/30’s scene.Nicely captured.

    6.David K
Wonder what the kneeling photographer has spotted?

    7.Del B
A ragging sea becomes a tranquil mist - certainly needs the title. Well judged exposure.

    8.Duncan K
The cult of personality. The poor guy just wanted a day out persuing his interest. Well captured image and spot on focus.

    9.Elaine J
Good colours on a dull day. Personally would like to see the verticals a bit more vertical.

    10.Howard F
A much wider veiw would have worked better for me, although I appreciate the steps gave the opportunity for this perspective.

    11.Jim C
Well seen combiation of people and signs. Hope the doggy enjoyed its drink.

    12.Keith M
Almost too perfect with the Wisteria in bloom. Beutifully co-ordinated colours designed by the local resident presents an image that would grace any wall.

    13.Me

    14.Malcolm R
Another scene I confess I would have walked by without a thought of a picture. Very topical - perhaps why no customers. Well spotted.

    15.Phil C
Another well observed moment and the fact the maniquine has taken a step forward for you is great. Powerful image of its genre.

    16.Robert H
Good image of “whoever” in full cry. The applied vignette is a little to heavy for me.

    17.Rob S
Good location but needs moree dramatic light and/or sky to make the best of scene (in my view,of course).

    18.Theodore D
Certainly a different view point, making a slightly abstract image from a everyday happening. Well thought out.

    19.Tony M
A true “golden hour” image. Lovely colours and good detail in the shadow areas. Only question for me is if the main arch is a little too central, but a striking photograph.

  4. 1) Bernd H
Dramatic shot. Good contrasts and impressive sky background and cloud formation

    2) Bill A
A somewhat surreal image, presumably with a deal of post-processing

    3) Bill S
Fine action picture with good framing and ‘spot on’ timing

    4) Dave S
Super shot with fine detail in B & W. One does wonder what it would be like in colour, having regard to the stain glass sections

    5) David F
Good piocture of the car with atmosphere provided by the background detail

    6) Me

    7) Del B
The long exposure has certainly removed the feel of gale force winds resulting in a rather muted scene. Detail in the ironwork is good

    8) Duncan K
Good image of a great rock musician. Well ‘captured’ and well focussed

    9) Elaine J
It is the strong (red) colours in the boat that give strength to the photograph

    10) Howard F
Interesting coincidence to have a second shot from Venice, but then, of course, the subject matter could as easily be found in Bath and any number of UK towns?! Indeed, are the bowls shown related to the usual presence of a dog? Good detail and exposure

    11) Jim C
Good and fun street photograph. If the dog could see the sign, it might have been pulling to ‘follow the arrow’

    12) Keith M
Fine photograph with the blue theme and the colours blending well together

    13) Keith W
Good picture very much strengthened by the red funnels on the boat

    14) Malcolm R
Fun street style photograph, which was well spotted to capture the signs

    15) Phil C
Good picture of the mannequins and the onlooker. Fun shot

    16) Robert H
Good action shot. Well framed with good lighting

    17) Rob S
Fine landscape photograph with good framing and ideal sky and clouds

    18) Theodore D
Interesting shot taken from a dog’s-eye view

    19) Tony M
Fine photograph with good detail and framing strengthened by excellent lighting

  5. 1. Bernd H. Super tones, composition and depth, with the peak perfectly positioned amidst the clouds.

    2. Bill A. A very well timed capture with a perfectly positioned sun. The soft orange light makes even the detritus and variety of scrap material seem strangely alluring…

    3. Bill S. Great timing and sharpness in this action shot with two very well captured expressions. Was that the snick of leather on willow I just heard? Owzat?!

    4. Dave S. An attractive, well-exposed scene with pleasing tones and peaceful atmosphere.

    5. David F. Good soft monochrome tones with an antique touch. Enough detail in the background to see what the event is but a little more motion-blur in the car’s wire wheels would give a better sense of motion/speed.

    6. David K. A colourful beach shot with plenty of colour and action – but somehow a little random with no real sense of what the main subject is meant to be. Is that a dust bunny in the top left quadrant?

    7. Del B. The long exposure adds a slight sense of mystery whereas the strong diagonal and ‘hard’ material of the slipway create tension, so there is an element of contradiction that holds one’s attention.

    8. Duncan K. Good, well lit capture of a character. Personally I would like to see the figure positioned slightly more to the right, giving more space for his gaze.

    9. Elaine J. Attractive reds and yellows, plus the raindrops on the glossy black. Presumably a difficult, cramped location that meant the adjacent blue cover could not be omitted. I wonder if the leaning verticals were deliberate – if so I think they should be more exaggerated.

    10. Howard F. Hopefully he did not wake from his slumber to find you aiming a camera at him. Mind you, he does not look particularly nimble! Excellent ‘street’ image.

    11. Jim C. Can’t quite put my finger on the reason(s) but this does not quite gel for me. Perhaps it is the conspicuous arrow taking the eye immediately out of the frame – reverse its direction?

    12. Keith M. Me.

    13. Keith W. Strong lines, bold colours and plenty of interest. A slightly more distant viewpoint would give us more of a view of the passengers – as it is they are too truncated.

    14. Malcolm R. Appears to be quite grainy for TMax 100 – is this a crop? I think it needs the chap behind the counter to be more noticeable and perhaps a customer in dialogue with him to really work.

    15. Phil C. Well spotted and taken. Typical Tri-X contrast and grain suits the subject.

    16. Robert H. A fine set of gnashers! A well taken shot, suitably treated. Clone out the two distracting highlights on the right edge?

    17. Rob S. Apart from the top left corner the colours are soft and gentle, as are the shapes so overall it is a peaceful, relaxing scene but I cannot but help feeling there is an emptiness there. No details of what it was taken with.

    18. Theodore D. A somewhat enigmatic image that draws one in as one tries to decipher it. Strangely attractive…

    19. Tony M. Bold colours, shadows, shapes and lines give impact to this well composed image.

    ReplyDelete
  6. 1) Bernd H. Beautiful tones and very nice composition.

    2) Bill A. Another masterpiece of light and composition from Bill.

    3) Bill S. Great timing and a good crop to concentrate the action.

    4)

    5) Good action shot from a great viewpoint.

    6) Pleasant record shot of beach activity though appears a little flat on my screen. Time to get the Fairy liquid and scrubbing brush out on the sensor, or use of the healing brush, good few dust bunnies showing in various areas of the sky.

    7) Del. Simply stunning. Great atmosphere and sense of the foreboding from the way the old slipway disappears into the mist of the sea.

    8) Duncan K. Nice grab shot of the old rocker.

    9) Elaine. Like the use of colour and the angles in this one, very nice.

    10) Howard. Good street shot, well seen and executed.

    11) Jim. Amusing street scene Hope they took the dog to get its goodies afterwards.

    12) Keith M. Love the gentle tones and colour harmony of this one. Classic French feeling.

    13) Keith W. Striking colours and contrast on this one, perhaps a slightly wider angle to have included more of the people at the base, many cut at odd places.

    14) Malcolm. Yet another amusing shot from Malcolm. Well spotted.

    15) Phil. Well seen and executed street shot.

    16) Robert H. Well timed to get 'the expression' perhaps a clone to of the highlights on the right.

    17) Rob S Interesting composition, like the simplicity. Perhaps a littlele pp to bring back sky detail and boos foreground contrast.

    18) Theodore. Like it, outside the box, works well.

    19) Tony M. Like the simplicity and composition of this one. Beautiful light.

  7. Bernd H
This is certainly dramatic. The billowing clouds and black sky works well with the black towering rock face. Full of detail where it is required and you have the added bonus of the mountain hut being dwarfed by the mountain to give maximum impact. A sure winner.
    2) Bill A
The golden light makes this picture. You have captured the scene at the right moment showing all the boat jumble. A good sharp image with plenty of detail.
    3) Bill S.
Well caught! You have filled the frame with your chosen subject. I like the expressions on the cricketers faces.
    4) Dave S.
Plenty of detail here and of course the lighting makes this picture. A good crisp image.
    5) David F.
The car is nice and sharp. And the blurred background aids the image. Seems like there is a lot of veteran cars are in the car park. I think the choice of tone and border is sympathetic with the photograph.
    6) David K.
A good record of the event but I feel overall the picture is too busy with no real centre of interest which is a pity.
    7) Del B.
The slipway is good and sharp considering the conditions you describe. A long exposure has given an ethereal effect to the image which gives it added atmosphere.
    8) Duncan K.
Certainly filled the frame with Brian May here. Excellent quality for 800iso plus available light.
    9) Elaine J.
The contrast of the red seat with the black hull is very striking. The droplets of water give us an idea of the weather conditions. An interesting composition which works well here.
    10) Howard F.
Good and sharp and well seen. I would like to see the background a little more out of focus but I guess this was very much a grab shot. However you have achieved a good result under the circumstances.
    11) Jim C.
Well spotted and a good title. The pet supplies sign is an added bonus. God clean crisp image.
    12) Keith M.
Considering the age of the lens etc it is a very commendable result. However a bit of noise is apparent in the blue doors but not overly overwhelming. A very pleasing photograph to the eye.
    13) Keith W.
Those red funnels really stand out. A happy scene of a day out on an old Paddle Steamer.
    14) Malcolm R.
I think this image is very apt at the moment. Is the horse wagon delivering meat to the Burger van? Food for thought. Pity the image is a bit grainy As T-Max 100 should be finer grained than this. Well seen.
    15) Phil C.
Well spotted. The mannequins hand mirrors the lady with the cigarette and Tri-X grain enhances this particular image.
    17) Rob S.
A pleasing landscape but feel the clouds and blue sky could be a little deeper in tone as they are the main event dwarfing the little coppice. Nice idea but perhaps a few tweaks in Photoshop would enhance this picture further.
    18) Theodore D.
Interesting image. Somehow this seems to work ,the blurred dog and its owners all out of focus which lends a slight mystery to the photograph. I like the angle you have taken this at as well.
    19) Tony M.
Lovely evening light which really brings out the warmth of the brickwork. The lone bollard also adds to the photograph.

    ReplyDelete
  8. 1. Bernd. Very dramatic, the white snow dome lines up perfectly with the dark pinnacle behind it and there is a symmetry to the cloud formations on each side. The chalet gives the whole thing scale.

    2. Bill A. A subject to really get stuck into and surreal light to go with it, how did you manage to get so much light on the white walls of the hut when the sun is directly behind it?

    3. Bill S. Brilliantly caught (and I’m not talking about the wicketkeeper), the concentration
of both players on the ball very apparent, we can see the whites of their eyes which is good going for a shot taken from the boundary and there is just a trace of movement in the bat. First rate.

    4. Dave S. My first thought was that this was a church interior but the rough brickwork and coats of arms on the widow suggest that it may be a not-so-stately house. The play of light through the window and onto the brickwork really livens up this corner of the building. Lack of detail in the dark shadows means that the edges of the picture bleed into the black of the computer screen when viewed full size - maybe a slightly lighter border to give it a frame in these circumstances?

    5. David F. 228 does seem to be fairly static (see the wire wheels) but otherwise a well framed shot with the added bonus of showing all the odd vehicles that have turned up to the event.

    6. David K. I find my eye wandering from sandcastles to tent to kites without really settling anywhere. Lots of activities going on so lots of individual pictures here.

    7. Del B. Almost a monochrome, the long exposure makes it look very still and dreamlike despite the gale force winds.

    8. Duncan K. Good frame filling portrait, background slightly distracting but that’s the nature of these events and I would not wish to see it “Photofaked”.

    9. Elaine J. That red reminds me that I have to repaint the front door. The raindrops on the gondola suggest a dull day but the splash of colour lifts the picture out of the ordinary.

    10. Howard F. Nicely framed against a simple and evenly coloured background. It would appear that he waters his beer.

    11. Jim C. It tells the story - all the stronger for the pet supplies sign.

    12. Keith M. Another simple composition with a strong colour combination, it would be ruined if the bike were to be any colour other than blue.

    13. Keith W. I have a feeling Waverly used to sail out of Weymouth for Lulworth Cove half a century or more ago, isn’t she a paddle steamer? All the excitement of embarkation to be seen here, it would be difficult (impossible?) to show the paddles when she is tied up to the pier.

    14. Me.

    15. Phil C. One of those quirky moments when real life imitates the window display, well spotted and caught.

    16. Robert H. The darkening around the edges looks a little unnatural but the expression is well caught and framing spot on.

    17. Rob S. Nice summer day, makes me think of Microsoft.

    18. Theodore D. It took me a while to make out what this was about but once that has been established it does have a certain appeal. The unusually low angle turns a fairly ordinary scene into something surreal.

    19. Tony M. Light, colour and the flattened perspective make an intriguing picture out of very little, well seen and executed.

  9. 1) Bernd H.

I like this shot, wonderful detail in the rocks and sky.

    2) Bill A.

Excellent photo with some very nice colours / tones.

    3) Bill S.

Terrific shot, the eyes of both players say it all for me.

    4) Dave s.

The detail in the window is very good but for me I would have liked to see more of the left hand window to get a more balanced photo.

    5) David F.

    6) David K.

Very good photo but for me am holiday shot.

    7) Del B.

Superb (again) the atmosphere is terrific, I am waiting to see a ghostly apparition coming out of the sea!

    8) Duncan K.

I was there and never caught a glimpse of him, perhaps I was deciding whether or not to a red blind 111c? Great photo

    9) Elaine J.

Lovely photo but for me I would have liked to remove the blue cover on the RHS and the other cover coming from the edge of the boat.

    10) Howard F.

Super shot, like the graffiti on the wall behind.

    11) Jim C.

    A good record shot?

    12) Keith M

Lovely photo, you can almost smell the wisteria.

    13) Keith W.

    A good record shot.

    14) Malcolm R.

Is it me or is there a connection between the burger van and the horses in transit van?

    15) Phil C.

    Superb photo and composition.

    16) Robert H.

Great shot and very nicely composed, like the framing.

    17) Rob S

    Not for me this shot.

    8) Theodore D.

Agree that there is lots of missues but as you say there is something about the photo that I also like, is it the ‘wackiness’?.

    19) Tony M.

Again this photo does nothing for me, sorry.

  10. Duncan K - Part 110 July 2013 at 11:48

    1) Bernd H: Mont Nuvolau

Superb composition. But perhaps the shadows could probably be lifted slightly to give more definition to the chalet?

    2) Bill A: The Wheelhouse – The Hard, Brancaster Staithe

The derelict wheelhouse is one of the few recognizable artifacts; there’s detail in the shadow areas which I’d like to see but maybe the intention was to create a slightly underexposed look? The photograph conveys a sombre mood and I’m hearing sombre music. I’m also thinking what a good location to take a model. But, as it is, I’m sitting on the fence about this composition.

    3) Bill S: Out or not?

A superb photograph which admirably succeeds in capturing a decisive moment. Good use of the right type of camera – and the lens ‘ain’t bad’ either … good combination. Worth a trip to Photographica just to find the lens which I presume was a bargain?

    4) Dave S: Light from yon window

I’m thinking. “What could I place on the windowsill to ‘create’ … “ A good record with a pleasing ‘mood’ but it lacks impact. I like to see similar photographs where the sunlight is visibly penetrating the misty/dusty air … absent in this picture.

    5) David F: Beck Powerplus Special on the hill at Prescott.

Exposure is fine and it’s a fair record but even though there is some blurring movement in the wheels the car looks rather too static. I’ve not been to Prescott so do not know if it’s possible to find a better vantage point from which to take photographs – but the chosen position has resulted in an image that lacks dynamism.

    6) David K: People activities at a kite festival

The title suggests more activities than the image shows. A not very exciting and rather busy image with not very much happening. A closer view of eg the chap snoozing or the kneeling photographer might be a bit more ‘box office’?

    7) Del B: Battling against gale force winds on the Cornish coast

The gale force winds are not immediately evident – but I like the illusory dynamics of the composition ie how the steps appear to traverse diagonally when in fact they are horizontal across the image. Long exposure water pictures do not usually appeal to me but this misty creation has worked rather well.

    8) DK … mine

    9) Elaine J: Regal Interior

Striking colour but I do not find the ‘leaning over’ perspective easy on my eye.

    10) Howard F: Down and Out in Venice

It’s sharp and tells a bit of story but as the poor chap is asleep there’s not much of interest in his facial expression. If he was awake I imagine he’d have a more ‘down and out’ look / expression. A bit too ‘tame and tidy’ as a ‘down and out’ illustration.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Duncan K - Part 210 July 2013 at 11:48

    11) Jim C: Lunch for Three at Hawes

Tells a bit of a story and I like the dog bowl and the ‘Pet Supplies’ … but the two human diners look a bit static – as does the poor dog. It almost works but is lacking in excitement … the patient dog looks fed up. Has not captured quite the right moment – did you try and take a series or is this the only shot?

    12) Keith M: Bicycle Blues

Good harmony and pleasing result but can’t help thinking could have been a stronger image with a closer view of the bike and just one door on the LHS .

    13) Keith W: Waverley embarkation

Strong colours and pleasing diagonal perspective but I’d like/prefer to see the passengers’ legs and feet too.

    14) Malcolm R: Fast Food Skegness 2003

‘Almost’ topical and amusing picture – but it lacks sharpness to my eye. The foreground could be cropped a bit to provide a closer view.

    15) Phil C: Two wrists

Well spotted and amusing coincidental body language. But I’d like to see the shadow detail in the lady’s lower half lifted a bit … and she could have been framed a bit better ie to include all of her coat.

    16) Robert H: Bon Jovi (tribute band ) Raglan Music Festival

It’s an OK shot but reading the title I’m looking for the ‘festival’ and there is none evident or visible. I’d like to see a bit more of the festival ‘habitat’.

    17) Rob S: Knole Park, Sevenoaks

Pleasant scene but lacks drama and contrast. The trees are too central to my eyes. If the scene was cropped so the trees are on the RHS and the contrast increased it could be a stronger image.

    18) Theodore D: Untitled

A ‘different’ and almost impressionist type of image which made me keep looking – but has left me with a feeling of uneasiness. Very little is in focus and the blurred dog, and the even more blurred ‘thing’ in its mouth, is rather too disturbing and uneasy to my eyes. And I’d prefer to see a title.

    19) Tony M: Evening Light – an old railway arch in Castlefields, Manchester

A fair record and probably interesting to a railway architecture enthusiast/historian – but to me it lacks excitement even though there is some pattern to the shadows. The archway is too central.

  12. Duncan. I only had a single shot. after that the couple did not appear to like a camera pointed at them, the dogs were happy but there you are, it's the risk of street pics.
I think I'll try a longer spy lens. The FZ200 has a vario Elmarit equal to 600mm, that may be the key to candid shots.

  13. 1) Bernd H - Monte Nuvolau on top of Giau Pass in the Dolomites, Italy

Dramatic rock and sky. I like the normality of the house in the foreground. The black and white works very well.

    2) Bill A - The Hard, Brancaster Staithe, Norfolk. "The Wheelhouse"

Lovely bright light and reflections in the water. The fact the hut is central and has its door open makes for a very interesting photo.

    3) Bill S - Out or not?

The expressions, and particularly their eyes, makes the shot. The fact the ball is also in the frame gives the whole thing a nice narrative.

    4) Dave S - Light from yon window

Lovely details of the window and wall. The shadows down the wall and floor gives it added interest.

    5) David F - Becke Powerplus Special on the hill at Prescott.

Looks like it was taken some time ago as my interest is with the cars and people behind. The writing on the car and central composition makes the photo.

    6) David K - 'People Activities at a Kite Festival'

A little too much going on for me to really comment.

    7) Del B - Battling against the gale force winds on the Cornish coast.

Looks like a scene from a science fiction movie. The diminishing perspective and mist makes this an intriguing photo.

    8) Duncan K - Brian May at Photographica, May 19 2013

He's gone grey and age confirmed by the cardigan over denim! I much loved guitarist by me but this feels a little sneaky for me.

    9) Elaine J - Regal Interior

The red and yellow stands out so well from the black. Composition wise it doesn't really work for me - too much gong on on the right and top - but I hope it was a good trip.

    10) Howard F - Down and Out in Venice

Street photography is so difficult as I feel we have an obligation to preserve some 'dignity' in the subject but I'm afraid this doesn't really capture this for me.

    11) Jim C - Lunch for Three at Haws

Typical English seen try to make the best of it! This is a little too unstructed for me with too many 'uprights' blocking things.

    12) Keith M - Bicycle Blues

What a pretty scene. Love the bright colours but the bike looks trapped!

    13) Keith W - Waverley embarkation,Bournemouth Pier

The two chimneys are very impressive; all freshly painted. A lot going on in this photo but there is an interesting narrative with the captain greeting people.

    14) Malcolm - Fast Food, Skegness 2003

I like the graininess of this photo but I'm left not sure what the photos about.

    15) Phil C - Two wrists

Another very nicely observed scene which makes for a very compelling composition. The 'further reduction' sign gives if that all important three points of interest.

    16) Robert H - Bon Jovi (tribute Band) Raglan Music Festival

Concert photos are a little tricky to capture and you're done it well here. Nice. Great expression and you've even captured a great photo of someone singing!!

    17) Rob S - Knole Park, Sevenoaks

    Me

    18) Theodore D

I love this kind of photo. Wonderful; slightly weird but compelling. Viewpoint is great, scale is great and so is the composition.

    19) Tony M - Evening Light

The light and single post makes for an interesting photo. Love the brick too.

  14. A great line up this month from all

    1, Bernd H
Stunning shot, my kind of sky as well. Good processing, well done Bernd.

    2, Bill A
Lovely colours, late evening I guess, another fine shot from Bull.

    3, Bill S
No out I think, I’d not have given him anyway! It’s a fine action shot Bill

    4, Dave S
Great exposure and processing, good detail in the window and as much detail in the deep shadow as I think you could get on a shot with such a range.

    5, Davis F
Another great action shot, I do like the processing and ‘tone’

    6, David K
Surreal and dreamlike with the kites, I do like the chap with the 2 cameras photographing the tent, and it’s a fine sandcastle too!

    7, Dell B
Again a dreamlike photograph, good exposure / composition and I like the misty rocks also.

    8, Duncan K
Great portrait Duncan, Mr. May looks deep in thought, well done.

    9, Elaine J
Lovely – sums Venice up completely, well seen and taken.

    10, Howard F
It’s the other side of the coin when one equates it with Elaine’s shot, again well seen and taken.
    11, Jim C
Well spotted and very funny, the dog is just in the right position.

    12, Keith M
Summer in a photograph! Great exposure and scanning, I love the colour of the doors.

    13, Keith W
Lovely exposure and processing, looks like a very busy ship.

    14, Malcolm R
Priceless! What a spot to park the burger van in, well taken!

    15, Phil C
A great ‘street’ shot – if only the woman had a hat on like the window models – but you can’t have everything.

    16, Robert H
Good action shot, the singer looks well into his ‘set’ in this one, perhaps the addition of some ‘grain’ and a little more contrast would give it a pre-digital feel?

    17, Rob S
I like the composition on this shot and the colour. Have you tried a B&W of this? I think that would work even better (but that’s me)

    18, Theodore D
Yes it’s an interesting shot, and angle and there’s a tension about it also.

    19, Me
